All 4 sections in the DA were represented by at least 4 active members.Following an excellent one-page summary presented by Eve, there was a lively debate concerning the implementation of CTC's new policy handbook for local groups. Our thanks to Norman Hayes, CTC Councillor for South-western Region and rider with Corinium CC, for fielding many of our questions. There were a number of issues that he agreed to take away and raise within CTC, in particular the issue of voting rights for members who are active with more than one Section (e.g. Midweek and Wantage for example). Norman was really there to fill us in on plans for the 2008 Birthday rides at Moreton-in-the-Marsh, which he did towards the end of the meeting. The venue of the Fire Sevices Training College in Moreton-in-the-marsh sounds excellent with some quality en-suite accommodation as well as plenty of room for camping. The plan is to have a range of rides each day with led rides along each of the routes (although all participants will have their own route sheets and can cycle independently if they wish). A number of cycling clubs in the region have already pledged support with organisation including Cheltenham Section, Corinium CC, Evesham Wheelers CC and Southern Wheelers (aka Coventry & South Warwicks CTC). On the 'DA' committee front, Eve and Steve Q agreed to stay on in their posts of Secretary/Registrar and Treasurer respectively for another year (only). James Dawton was elected to a new post of DA Rights and Planning Officer (which is essentailly the same role as his existing Right-2-ride post). Pat Hurt was also elected as an Ordinary Committee member. Brian H remains our 'DA' rep from our Section committee. Finally, in line with the recommendations of the new policy handbook, a motion was passed (with 1 abstention) to formally drop the moniker 'District Association' from our Area group name, so that the 'DA' will now be known as CTC Oxfordshire. I'm not quite sure what term we should now use to describe the group formally known as the 'DA'? Area or County perhaps? I guess the term DA may stick for a while. Steve S | ||
