Betjeman Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:2:00 pm |
Start Location:Betjeman Park, Wantage |
Description:In partnership with the Trustees of the Betjeman Park in Wantage, this is a gentle beginners ride from the Park to Uffington, where John Betjeman lived during the 1930's. The ride is particularly suitable to invite friends and family to try out.We leave the Park and cut across to Grove past the famous Plane on a Stick, then Denchworth, Goosey and Baulking to the parish church in Uffington, where delicious tea and cakes await. 10 miles and no hills - seriously, anyone can do this! The average speed will be around 10-11 mph. If you are up for it, we will guide riders back to Grove/Wantage by the same route in reverse as well. |

There was a range of experience and a range of bikes on display, but everyone handled the ride excellently. The cakes at Uffington were splendid, as always, and we got back home just as a few refreshing spots of rain were falling. It was a great honour (and a great bonus) to have both the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor of Wantage riding with us. This gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "I've got a spare chain here..." | ||
