Picnic Ride to Duxford | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:2:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Monthly 16-32km (10-20 miles) family and social afternoon rides, usually with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 13-16km/h (8-10mph). Occasional short or gentle climbs. To mark this year's Bike Week a sociable ride to the lowest ford on the River Thames at Duxford to be followed by a picnic in Hinton Waldrist. We'll ride out via Lyford to Southmoor and cross the A420 on a canny bridge to reach the village of Longworth. We'll stop in a lovely hidden corner before continuing on to Hinton Waldrist. Here a road drops down into the Thames Valley and Duxford. The ford is reached by a stretch of bridleway, but after the recent rain, we'll need to proceed with care and the ford may be higher than usual. So while we may be able to paddle, we may not be able to cycle across. There is a short climb back into the Vale from the ford, but this is on a very quiet road (cul de sac) which everyone can take at their own pace. We'll regroup for a picnic tea by the church in Hinton Waldrist. Please bring something to sit on and refreshments. We'll return to Grove via Lamb Lane and Charney Bassett, a round trip of about 19 miles. This is a Bike Week Event and all are welcome including families. As we will be visiting the ford, please note that all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The ride will be at easy pace following quiet country lanes with no-one left behind. |
