Off-road Morning Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Robin Tucker |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School OX10 8EN |
Description:The last of this year's scheduled weekend rides for those who like their rides bumpy and (sometimes) muddy. This one will head out across Grim's ditch and cover about 20 miles mostly off-road, aiming to finish in time for a late lunch (whether together or heading for home). The terrain will be rough, so a mountain-bike in good condition and with knobbly tyres is recommended. There will be ups, downs and twisty bits, but nothing that can't be ridden by anyone with a bit of off-road experience. Start: Outside the Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School, Old Reading Rd, OX10 8EN |

Report:Four of us in all, Alice and Paul as well as Ray and Robin. It was a great early autumn day. Cool to start, but sunny and not cold. Damp on the ground, but no serious puddles. Enough fallen leaves and beechnuts to make a satisfying crunch as we rode through the woods. A lot of the ride was in fact in the woods. We started out over the Grim’s Ditch singletrack. Then headed up past Hailey to do our main climb from Well Place. Then it was a nettled track to Stoke Row, and a big loop south and west through and round the woods, until we headed north once more to reach Woodcote. From Woodcote we took a steep rooty descent, and Ray picked up the only puncture of the trip. We headed over toward Icknield Way, spotting 6 parachutists and a wing-walker. Then it was north for a return visit to the excellent Grim’s Ditch track. | ||
