With an interesting route devised by Nicole who couldn't make it, we made prompt exit from OMH, barely taking time to greet John, joining us for his first ride. It was good to leave Denchworth on a rarely used route and take the A417 west of the railway line. A quick stop to put lights on before the dark parts of the Springline road and we were on the approach to Uffington and the start of the climb to the summit of White Horse Hill.Everyone ascended at their own pace, for a few it was their first time going up WHH on a bike. What a great night for it - great views, the windmills barely moving as they emerged as we climbed. The light starting to bleach out of the countryside and time at the top to appreciate it. There was a bit of confusion over leaving the summit but this ensured there was riders checking out for those descending. Most of us had to pause before crossing to the Woolstone road to allow the 4* riders to pass. Then it was a swoop down to Woolstone and an increasing pace back to the A417. We split into smaller groups to reach the Fox and a parting for those back off to the OMH. Particular thanks to Jon for doing a sterling job sweeping which is always testing when there are large groups. | ||
