Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Stephanie Haddrell |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:***UPPER BRIDGING RIDE***This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. More or less a repeat of a ride done a few weeks ago (but we might tweak the pace a bit if everyone is up for it). We go along the separated bike track to Wantage, around Charlton and then along the track to Lockinge. We skirt around the south of Ardington, spot the rhinoceros (long story), drop down to Ardington proper and then conquer the small climb up to the main road before the glorious descent past Lains Barn and back into Grove via the newly surfaced bike track past Williams. Just 10 miles with a couple of very minor climbs, |

Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. ** WEATHER UPDATE, Tuesday lunchtime**Clearly, it's going to be HOT, HOT, HOT this evening! Let's see how it feels at the start and who is in the group, but at the moment I am thinking about cutting out the main climb and dropping down into Childrey instead. ***UPPER BRIDGING RIDE*** This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range. Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. This will be high end 2* in two ways - a little bit faster on the average speed and a little bit of a hill in Hackpen! But - it will still be fun, promise... Out via the edge of Wantage and the Letcombes, we climb Hackpen and then immediately drop down to Sparsholt and the run along to Kingston Lisle. We have another nice descent then before the final run back through Goosey and Denchworth. |

Good group though, energised by the leader's decision not to do Hackpen Hill. All the rest of the route was fine though - Holborn Hill polished off nicely and then all enjoyed the big swoop down from Kingston Lisle. Thanks to all for your company! | ||

Start Location:OMH |
Description:Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather. |

Tuesday Evening 3* Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. ***UPPER BRIDGING RIDE***This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range. If you like climbing, this is for you! Blowingstone Hill is one of our classic climbs and acts as the centrepiece for this ride at the higher end of the range. Often run in a clockwise loop, this ride takes the opposite direction so we'll be going up Blowingstone rather than down it! A fast trip out through the vale will take us to the first climb to Kingston Lisle from where (after a brief breath) we'll head up the Blowingstone climb. Once regrouped at the top we'll be rewarded by a lovely descent into Lambourn and a longish climb back over the Ridgeway and back via the Letcombes. Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. Secondary Ride Leader TBA |

The long climb back up to the top of Hackpen Hill suited some very well and I even managed to carry on a conversation during the slog! The air was positively cooling by the time we got into the Letcombes and as riders began to peel off homeward I think we all had a pretty good evening's exercise Thanks to Jane for sweeping and Eddie for being ready to take up the secondary ride leader's mantle. Luckily a combination of heat and climbing meant that wasn't necessary | ||

Riders:Graeme DowsonLouis Hall Peter Cowan Riders = 3 Weather:Report:A very warm evening saw the return of Louis and the debut of Graeme in 4*.As advertised, a mellower affair this week due to the heat. A flat 50km with only 2 rises of note (Faringdon & Fernham). BOTH water bottles were duly consumed throughout the ride. We spotted LOTS of other cyclists out in the Vale, which was nice to see. | ||
