Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Stephanie Haddrell |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. This week we will head out to Sparsholt. A ride of approximately 14 miles with one climb. We will head out via Downsview Road, Badger Drive, Stockham, East Challow, & Childrey to Sparsholt; back via Childrey bridleway to West Challow and Denchworth. |

Report:What a beautiful evening! We started out with just 4 and thankfully picked up Naomi along Brereton Drive. We made a relatively a quick escape to the country out via the new estate the canal footpath and Stockham to the bridleway at East Challow. Here we took a leisurely ride avoiding the pot holes which had caught Martyn out at the weekend, and were treated to a culinary interlude as we learnt from Martyn how to pickle walnuts! From here we went on to Childrey and Sparsholt Church our original destination.... we then had a brief discussion as to whether we should extend the ride and visit Westcott and come back into Sparsholt via the spring line...being a daring bunch it was decided that going 'off piste' would be fun and so we did! We said a quick Hi to Lizzie as we passed her reputable cafe, and found the road down to Sparsholt Church was very pleasant and in good condition. We returned as planned through Childrey with a stop for chat by the pond and the obligatory 1* selfie... thanks Martyn! It was then plain sailing through West Challow Denchworth and home. A lovely evening with great company. | ||

Not likely to be very hilly.I think it's about time we went out and conquered Uffington White Horse Hill. It really has to be done at least once in the 2* Tuesday season and I feel the time is right. So - direct routing via Goosey and Baulking to Uffington, through the village and up the big hill - as simple as that! The views from the top are glorious and the remarkable scenery on the way up past Dragon Hill is stunning. So tell yourself that a few minutes effort will be well worthwhile. After the glorious descent, probably the same direct route back. Around 20 miles. Go on - you know you want to! |

Always hard to know who will be brave enough to give it a go - quite a few, as it turned out! Well done to everyone for taking the challenge. The route out was straightforward and the Hill loomed ever larger as we got closer (I don't think that helps...)After the warm up climb out of the village (which didn't seem to trouble anyone much), we all set off up the main climb past Dragon Hill. Frankly, everyone smashed it! Great efforts, big smiles at the top and some good photos. Even the car drivers who followed us up got into the spirit of the thing and offered to take a group photo. The descent was fun as always and we set a good pace back across the Vale. Thanks to all for great company and a great effort. | ||
