Leader:Stephanie Haddrell |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. A route of approximately 12 miles out to Charney Bassett back via Lyford and Denchworth. |

Riders:Barry StantonChris Bailey Clare Hazell David Jackson David Talboys Eddie Little Graeme Dowson James Bosley Jane John Jo Little John Groves Jon Townsin Karen Froud Katherine Boyce Kirsten Smith LeeAnn Norris Mike Cooke Sharon Bedford Yvonne Bird Riders = 19 Weather:Report:What an evening for a bike ride - well, at least 19 riders, ready for a thrash around the vale thought so !!We split into two groups, thanks to Kath for leading the second group, and headed off for a beautiful and pacey ride through mainly quiet lanes. Despite me asking several times, no-one seemed to want to go slower, so we completed the ride at the top of 3* pace and got back in good light. The road closure at the 'Volunteer bridge' caused the only lozenge of cars on the way into Denchford and the 2* group gave us a good target to aim for on the way back to Grove. The second group arrived five minutes later with no calamities to tell Thanks to Eddie for sweeping the first group and Kath, if you could let me know who swept for you, I'll add them in too.

Riders:Andy CowanFrank Schroer Jason Jones Jerry Bird Nick Fisher Paul Jarvis Peter Cowan Phil Ward Philip Ingles Richard Burnham Vicky Lawson Riders = 11 Weather:Report:Could have been a record turn-out of 11 for a 4 star ride with one new(ish) rider Vicky braving an otherwise 'lad' (?) dominated ride.Almost everyone took a turn into the headwind on the way out and once past the Farmoor reservoir (a direction not many Tuesday night rides seem to head to somehow?) we soon had the wind behind us. In quick succession there was a GPS reading error by the ride leader followed by what turned out to be a bridleway that I accidentally seem to have included in the route in trying to avoid riding on the A415 as much as possible. A quick map check got us back on the route soon enough and onto the 'little Holland' section near the Thames with some quiet lanes (with unfortunately still a few cars on the opposite direction). Phil W had left us by then as he preferred to have dinner with some other group of cyclists (!) This was a flat ride so far but we went up the only hill of significance of the day at Buckland. From there the group graduallly dispersed with some of us heading to the Fox in Denchworth for a pint or 2.
