Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:David Smith |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:UPDATE 23/07/2018 -The route goes all the way back to Grove, but the leader will be stopping for food at the Fox. I'm sure we will be able to arrange a return ride for those not wanting to stop at the Fox. There is a very short section of bridleway on tonight's route, it is passable with all but the narrowest of tyres. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. Optional social stop at The Fox at Denchworth at the end of the ride. |

Report:A small but select group of riders tonight. It was great to see Bryony back on her road bike, SPDs causing no unscheduled dismounts, despite her fears, and warm enough to tempt Mila out too.An annoying head-wind on the way out and a faulty valve caused a brief discussion as to whether we should cut the ride short, but a decision to revert to Plan A was rewarded with a speedy blast back to Denchworth with the wind on our backs. A lovely, relaxed ride in gorgeous weather, with beautiful views and good company. What's not to like? | ||

Riders:David JacksonDavid Lynch Hugo Pile James Bosley James McGuigan Jan McCabe John Groves John Hibberd John Tranter Jon Townsin Joy Arthur Katherine Boyce Mike Cooke Nicole Pethybridge Olivia Pile Paul Bentley Roger Postbeschild Stephanie Haddrell Steve Joyce Terry Penn Yvonne Bird Riders = 21 Weather:Report:A lovely evening to cycle and a great turnout of 21 riders to enjoy it! We split into two groups, (thanks to John T for leading the second group). Off into the vale, through Denchworth for the first deviation from the route, and on towards Childrey and Sparsholt, where we passed the 2* group.Yvonne unwittingly posed the best question of the evening - "How many 3* riders does it take to change a tyre?" Katherine answered by sending the redundant majority off to mind our own business and 'they'd join us later' - which they duly did! The second deviation took us into Uffington for a few extra kilometres. Eventually we succumbed to Hugo's desire to get to the pub and finished off with a very pleasant evening in the Fox. Nicole, having cycled around most of the world in a week, earned a bonus point for just turning up! | ||

Riders:Andy CowanJason Jones Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Richard Hypher Riders = 5 Report:A bridge too far, hilly and fast !Five regular riders set of on a flat start to the ride with all taking turns on the front. Skirting Lechlade for the first hills of the ride saw the group split,Nick, Richard and Andy took the right hand fork at Coleshill waiting out of sight from tail enders Jason and myself thinking we had been dropped, sorry Jason for holding you back ! We carried on towards Faringdon on the planned route getting back to the Fox by 8:35 . The other three now lead by Nick who to his credit was on my original planned route before I posted a new reduced route at the request of the ride secretary, amended after Nick had loaded on to his Yahoo device. Apparently they encountered cows loose in the road which delayed their progress and so decided not to join us at the Fox. All ended well and with a note to ones self not to amend well made plans in future | ||
