Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:This evening's ride takes in villages to the west of Wantage: Out past the plane on a stick, East Challow, Childrey, Sparsholt; back via Challow Station, Goosey and Denchworth. Exact details to be confirmed...Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Report:A gentle trip out to Childrey and back with virtually no hills. Full advantage was taken of the descent down New Road. It was nice to ride and chat to some riders I'd not ridden with before - thanks to all of you and thanks to Karen for sweeping (and speeding me up when needed !). | ||

Tuesday Evening 2* Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Jan McCabe |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. The past couple of 2*rides have been flat, so I thought I'd some gentle hills this time, which will be taken at a gentle pace, with plenty of rests to regroup and get our breath!Flat initially and then climbing up through Sparsholt to Sparshot firs, before returning via the Letcombes At only 26k (16 miles) it is shorter than the typical 2*, but will be good to tak our time and admire the views from the hills |

Riders:Brian HipwellDes Higgs Douglas Gunn Jan McCabe John Hibberd Kirsty Gunn Lorna Swanton Michael Tayler Paul Bentley Phillip Folkes Steve Swanton Val Smith Riders = 12 Weather:Report:A lovely sunny evening, and a bit of a breeze meant it wasn’t too hot for our ride. There were 12 of us including new rider Paul, always great to see new people coming along. First part of ride was flat out through Denchworth, then a short stretch of A417 before we started out gentle warm up climb to Sparsholt, as we crossed the B road it was possible to see how the road snakes up the hill side towards the radio mast at the top. Climb was gentle at first, then got steeper as we ascended through the trees where it was shady. Everyone managed the climb without any issues, at last I assume they did as I’d postered along at the back on that stretch and everyone seemed recovered and admiring the views by the time I got to the top we then enjoyed the descent down hackpen hill before undulating through the Letcombes and returning to grove around 8:15 | ||

Riders:Andy CowanDarran Milne Frank Schroer Iain Kent Jerry Bird Richard Hypher Ruth Fisher Riders = 7 Weather:Report:The Lead was delegated to Ruth and the report to me.It was the annual 4*Streatley Special, inducing more focused enquiries than usual about the parcours before departure from the uninitiated. Apart from Jerry getting a family call to return home we made the base of the climb with no problems.Ruth whizzed away leaving the rest of us ,in a cacophony of clunking gears and bemoaning the lack of just one more, to grind away. The rest was lumpy but uneventful on a lovely evening. A special mention for Darran who showed some British Army fighting spirit to complete his self proclaimed hardest ever ride even managing to sit on the Leaders`s wheel for the last 10 miles home. Thanks all. Andy C | ||
