Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:David Smith |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:UPDATED 02/July/2018 - This weeks ride is one of the longer 1* rides at 14 miles and includes a section on bridleway. The bridelway section is about 1.5km long and is rideable on anything other than the narrow racing tyres. Pace will be adjusted to suit the terain and the groups abilities. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Riders:David SmithGemma Whitworth John Hogston Lorna Swanton Martyn Wigmore Ursula Hallam Riders = 6 Weather:Report:A wonderful evening for a leisurely ride with a section of bridleway thrown in. We spotted Hares haring around the fields and as Martyn told us about the combine harvester that set fire to a field, he carefully lit his pipe! Quite a headwind in place but that just kept us cool. Thanks to everyone for coming and Ursula for sweeping, hope you all enjoyed the evening too. | ||

May be hilly.Last week's ride up White Horse Hill was a warm up for a Court Hill ascent this week, and then a few more hills... culminating in an exhilarating Chain Hill descent. NB *** I have amended this route 1/07/18 at 1pm, after a recce this morning I found I had routed us down a footpath in Brightwalton! Please could any ride leaders joining the ride download the route in case we need to split the ride, it has a lot of turns and some of the roads may be less familiar. |

Riders:Eddie LittleGareth Smith James Bosley Jane John Jerry Bird Joy Arthur Julie Haynes Steve Swanton Yvonne Bird Riders = 9 Weather:Report:Another sublime Tuesday evening with the Oxfordshire countryside looking gorgeous in the golden light.A smaller group than usual and the roads were suspiciously quiet, might just possibly have had something to do with the England v Columbia match... A lovely ride, I was impressed by the amount of chatting that carried on even as we panted up the hills! Thank you to Yvonne for sweeping. | ||

Riders:Andy CowanDarran Milne Frank Schroer Iain Kent Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Richard Hypher Riders = 7 Weather:Report:7 riders enjoyed the increasingly quiet roads instead of Kane & co in Russia, with the ride leader being able to just get to the end of School Lane in time to meet the group leaving (due to work commitments & the A417 roadworks not helping).Initially flat section into nagging headwind via A338 ,with Hanneys and Garford detour, onto Marcham and the first passage of Cothill via Black Horse Lane. Route then lead through Dry Sandford & Wootton (with the only slight GPS induced reading mishap of the ride) onto the climb through Old Boar's Hill with some nice views of the spires of Oxford in the sunshine in the distance as reward. From there we bombed down Foxcombe road followed by the brilliant section of new (and mostly downhill!) road past Bagley Wood that I think everyone enjoyed and a loop through Kennington with the dragging incline to the bridge over the A34 & onto Bayworth. That lead us to the pretty much the last (and challenging) hill of the day to set us up for another downhill section of Foxcombe road & Fox Lane. After that we finally got the advantage of some tail wind which helped us past Honeybottom Lane , Cothill (again), past the Doghouse pub and Tubney . About a half mile section of the A420 with more wind assistance to the Fyfield Wick turn lead us to a fast blast to Charney Bassett where Paul (briefly, sorry) found fast legs. From there it was back via Denchworth with hardly contested dash & home where some may still have watched the end of the game ? | ||
