Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Tonight we will go via Charlton and take Route 44 to Lockinge, over the hill and down to Ardington. From there it is over the A417 and past Lains Barn. Here we have a short stretch on the A338 to reach East Hanney, before West Hanney and Denchworth (Pub! for those who would like to stop) before returning to Grove.Total trip around 13 miles. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. Optional social stop at The Fox at Denchworth at the end of the ride. |

Report:A select little group of four of us - that is, after the leader arrived, having been delayed(!) my apologies.A very warm welcome to Gemma on her first ride with us. Your humble leader's duty was very ably assisted by Martyn, not least with some gems of local knowledge along the way, plus selecting a road down from Lockinge to Ardington that I had not been along before! It shaved a little off the anticipated route, enabling us to detour a bit in Ardington, to point out the good local pub! A nice decent past Lains Barn, (I note that the 2star ride did the ascent past Lains Barn, so we had the better deal.....), then Carin left us, and met us at the pub. We three continued on via the Hanneys, with two of us stopping at the pub to meet up with the other groups, taking in the essential post ride booze & grub. Nice way to finish. See you next time! | ||

May be hilly.I thought it was about time for the midsummer ascent of White Horse Hill. A straightforward run out to Uffington and up Dragon Hill. A moment to take in the view and then a descent through Woolstone and Fernham taking the Hatford, Charney Basset roads back to Denchworth. Optional social stop at The Fox at Denchworth at the end of the ride. Independent riding from Denchworth back to Grove. Don't forget to bring lights if riding after a pub stop. |

Riders:Darran MilneDavid Talboys Eddie Little Gareth Smith Hugo Pile James Bosley Jane John Jo Little John Groves John Tranter Jon Townsin Joy Arthur Julie Haynes Karen Townsin Katherine Boyce Louis Hall Nick Dunton Nicole Pethybridge Yvonne Bird Riders = 19 Weather:Report:Well what a lovely evening it turned out to be. 20 riders turned out on a gloriously warm evening. We welcomed Joe a new rider as we split into two evenly matched groups to head out to the White Horse.Despite or perhaps aided by the warmth we spun easily to Uffington and made our way up the first section of the hill. Crossing the spring line road the work began but everyone made it up to the top. Well done to those doing it for the first time. We rejoined both groups for a photo opportunity at the top and took in the glorious view whilst getting our breath back. It was on the return that the fun started. The leader was temporarily confused as to whether she still lived in Shrivenham or was heading back to Grove and that meant the groups who had descended separately met at the junction to Fernham Road. Being courteous at this point and following the Highway Code group 2 now had right of way and went ahead. However with a rush of blood to the head and the legs a swift overtaking manoeuvre was conducted. All in good spirits if not a little unusual. Hugo and Nick could not resist and joined in. Only for Hugo to stop abruptly not long after with a puncture. This all resulted in a nice mixing of the groups heading back to Denchworth. A wonderful sunny ride with equal high spirits was capped off nicely in the beer garden of The Fox. A great club evening. Thanks to Katherine and all the sweeps | ||

May be hilly.Optional social stop at The Fox at Denchworth at the end of the ride. A lumpy 60k heading up Chain Hill, and zigzagging through the villages to seek out extra bumps, before descending back down Chain Hill as the sun sets and we all head for home (or The Fox, whichever seems the more attractive destination). |

Riders:Frank SchroerIain Kent Jason Jones Jerry Bird Peter Cowan Richard Kembleton Ruth Fisher Riders = 7 Weather:Report:7 riders set out on a beautiful evening. Ruth and Frank set a good pace out up Chain Hill, and once away from the main roads there was very little traffic and a lovely rolling ride with a good group. The ride leader finally popped before the final hill and had to say goodbye, but hopefully everyone found their way safely home and had a good time. | ||
