Tuesday evening 1* Ride - Cancelled | 1* |
---|
Leader:Gareth Smith |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:A flat ride around the Vale this evening heading to West Hanney via the Cow Lane track and then to Lyford, with the option for an extra loop to Charney Bassett if the sun is shining.Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |
||
Riders:Riders = 0Report:There were no riders for this evening's 1* ride. A number of the regular 1* riders did cycle this evening, but opted for the 2* "bridging" ride. I guess this could be regarded as a success. | ||

Tuesday Evening 2* Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Des Higgs |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. ***BRIDGING RIDE***This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the lower end of the pace range. Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). We are going to use a classic loop around the north of the Vale - one we used in the standard 2* programme at the beginning of the season. We go out through Denchworth to West Hanney, up the lovely smooth tarmac to Southmoor, and then the gentle drop to Charney Bassett. A final loop by Asti Stud gets us back to Denchworth and the railway bridge road back to Grove. A great chance for 1* riders to step up a little. The ride is dead flat so we will just tweak the average speed up a bit and see how we get on. But - no-one will be left behind, so no need to worry! 16 miles / 26km |

Off to Faringdon tonight, just one hill - the recently resurfaced Fernham Hill. For those that were on last weeks 2* bridging ride this will be a doddle compared to White Horse Hill . Riders:Clare HazellDavid Jackson David Talboys Eddie Little Gareth Smith James Bosley Jane John John Groves Jon Townsin Joy Arthur Julie Haynes Karen Townsin Katherine Boyce Nicole Pethybridge Olivia Pile Sharon Bedford Stephanie Haddrell Steve Joyce Stuart Webb Riders = 19 Weather:Report:Great turnout with a goodly number trying out 3* for either the first time or the first time this season. Nicole and Karen kindly offered to lead a group, which made it much easier . The newly resurfaced Fernham Hill wasn't a problem for anyone.Stiff headwind on the way out, which meant a delightful ride back from Faringdon - particularly the section on the A417. The number of patient, polite drivers out this evening was very noticeable. Well done everyone, a very pleasant evenings ride. Thank you to Jane for sweeping the group I led. | ||

Riders:Darran MilneFrank Schroer Hugh Falkner Jason Jones Louis Hall Martin Purling Mike Cooke Nick Dunton Paul Jarvis Richard Hypher Ruth Fisher Riders = 11 Report:A really good turn out for my second lead of the season, 11 in total,best of the season, with a few of the usual suspects missing,Pete Cowan gone into that other world of mountain biking and Andy Cowan doing something with horses,best you ask him about that.On to tonight`s ride, an assortment of abilities and experience managed riding together heading for a hilly start up Eastmanton Lane where we split into two groups for the fast descent into Lambourn. Back together we headed into a head wind towards the final climb up Ashbury Hill followed by another speedy decent towards Shrivenham delayed only by someone losing a water bottle. From there the group lost shape as it was every man or woman for themselves with Ruth, Frank and Jason putting the Hammer down. Once again the group came together in Fernham for the final push homewards. Frank split off at Charney Bassett to add a few extra miles to his ride and the rest cycled together with the usual Denchworth dash. No idea who won as I wasn`t anywhere near the front, my money would be on Ruth,who picked up more QOM`s to add to her collection,just pipping Jason. It was good to see some new faces including Darren,Martin,Mike and Richard stepping up to 4* and once again many thanks to Hugh for sweeping. | ||
