10-mile Club Evening Rides Restart | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our weekly programme of Tuesday evening easy rides restarts this week with a out-and-back ride to the village of Goosey in the heart of the Vale with its large village green, small white-washed church and a fine view towards the Ridgeway. A relatively flat route through Denchworth of about 8 miles. It can be cold in the lanes in April so please wrap up warm. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. The ride will return to and finish in Grove for those who need to get home. However, all are welcome to stop at The Fox in Denchworth for a sociable drink with members on the other evening rides on the way back. Lights will be needed for your ride home from the pub. |

Riders:Carin TranterDiana Whidborne Jason Hopkins Lewis Hopkins Lorna Swanton Martyn Wigmore Owen Hopkins Steve Boreham Steve Swanton Riders = 9 Weather:Report:Breezy and overcast with the threat of rain weren't the most promising conditions for our first easy Tuesday evening ride of the season. Nevertheless, a good turn out of 9 riders and 3 newcomers; a warm welcome to Jason, Owen and Lewis. We enjoyed a gentle ride out to Goosey with the breeze at times on our backs and at others in our faces. There was some really good calling of car up/down and warnings of potholes as we rode. It started to rain as we approached Goosey but , fortunately, this didn't last long. After a brief rest and natter on the green, we retraced our steps. Carin and Lorna decided to stop at the Fox while the rest of us continued back to Grove. The Steves returned to the Fox for the social afterwards. A most encouraging and enjoyable start to the season - see you all next week. | ||

There was some consternation when the second part of the route took us away from Denchworth, but we still arrived at the Fox in good time for a drink, meal and chat. Thank you to Karl and Des for their joint sweeping duties. | ||

A good turnout of 16 riders and 2 newish riders, Sian and Keith Mitchell. We cycled out to Longworth, back though Fyfield, joining Winter Lane to Hanney (always a pleasure to ride on that stretch of tarmac) and with a final little loop towards Goosey turning back up through Denchworth, with some riders stopping at The Fox and the rest heading back to Grove.
