Abingdon Cycle Festival |
---|
Leader: |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:Market Square Abingdon |
Description:This is an advert for The Abingdon cycle Festival rather than an actual Cycling UK Wantage event. The Abingdon Cycling Festival will be back for a 7th year on Sunday 22 April 2018. The Festival will deliver free rides and cycling activities for all ages and abilities. There will be over 20 rides on offer for road bikes, mountain bikes and anything else with two wheels! The event ambition is to encourage as many people, from every part of the local community, to get on their bikes! Road bike, mountain bike and family rides will head out from the Market Square starting from 9am. For the first time, 2018 will also see events taking place in the afternoon on the airfield at Dalton Barracks. Less experienced riders can benefit from free cycling skills sessions from 13.00-14.00, led by qualified coaches, for both children (8-14) and adults (15+). Then the racing cyclists take over the airfield track, competing in the Abingdon leg of the Oxfordshire Road Race League, hosted by the Abingdon Race Team – sign up on the British Cycling website. Spectators are welcome to come along and watch – there’s plenty of free parking. All rides organised by the festival are free and start at 9am in the market square and 1pm at Dalton Barracks (use Barrow Road entrance) and will continue throughout the day. Check the Abingdon Cycle Festival Facebook page for more details. https://www.facebook.com/cycleabingdon/ |

Regular Wantage Ride - Burford Classic | 3* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:All-day touring ride (80-100km / 50-65 miles), lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing almost inevitable.A classic touring ride into the Cotswolds, taking in some of my favourite places: Coleshill, Eastleach, the Windrush valley, Burford and a much-frequented ford. Just over 56 miles, which we'll take at a steady pace of 12-13 mph, with a few ups and downs, primarily before lunch. In the spirit of touring, we'll have a late morning break to visit the twin churches of Eastleach, before continuing on to lunch at the Royal Oak in Burford. There's a chance to dip our wheels in the ford at Shilton and a possible café stop on the way home. To help with numbers, please could you let Steve know if you are planning to come (thanks to those who've done so already). |
