Not likely to be very hilly.Change of plan - we haven't yet ventured over the A420 . Out via Charney and Pusey, over the A420 then back via the very useful bridge at Longworth before heading back via Lyford and Denchworth. |

Riders:Clare HazellDavid Talboys Des Higgs Gareth Smith James Bosley John Hibberd Julie Haynes Karl Blake Katherine Boyce Steve Boreham Val Smith Riders = 11 Weather:Report:A grey threatening night that still tempted 11 of us out. It was nice to welcome Julie on her first ride with the club. The leader tested everyone at the Denchworth T-junction by dithering over the route and then taking us the wrong way to Charney Bassett! With the wind at our back nobody complained at the extra mileage! We safely and swiftly crossed the A420, through Hinton Waldrist with discussions on childhood swimming at Duxford and then the twisty approach to the bridge back over the A420. Not only did we all cope well with the headwind but we seemed to be faster on the return than we did on the way out! A very pleasant ride with a lovely group. Can't ask for more really | ||

May be hilly.I've surprised myself and thought we would take in a climb to stretch the legs early in the season. A route less traveled and in the opposite direction to make this an interesting ride early in the season. Please remember to bring lights Note: slightly modified route to avoid farm track!! |

Riders:Andy CowanChristopher Whitworth Eddie Little James McGuigan Jane John Jerry Bird Jo Little John Groves Joy Arthur Mike Cooke Nick Dunton Nicole Pethybridge Roger Turnbull Sharon Bedford Sian Mitchell Steve Swanton Terry Penn Yvonne Bird Riders = 18 Weather:Report:Seventeen other riders were brave enough to try my reverse around the vale approach to this evening's ride. Despite some optimistic weather reports at the weekend it was actually cloudy and windy which didn't really help our direction of travel.Surprising myself at times with roads viewed in the opposite direction to normal we swept up Fawler Hill and then alone the spring line through Sparsholt. Whilst the wind was against us going up onto the ridgeway the benefit of swooping down Hackpen Hill was a rare delight. The Letcombes look very different west to east as we made our way home. Thanks to Jo, Jane and Terry for their support and sweeping A novel ride that I may well repeat - beware | ||

Tuesday Evening 4* Ride | 4* |
---|
Leader:Frank Schroer |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5-2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly. Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly - this isn't, but it will be pacy.Working lights mandatory, bottle & a little snap advised. Summer-time is predicted by my seaweed and pinecones! A rollicking loop up via quieter lanes to the NE, then via Abingdon to the delicacy of smooth tarmac through Milton Park. A deviation to sample the brand new tarmac on the Harwell link road up to the A417, giving a straightforward run West to end at the BP garage in Wantage. Should the forecast prove accurate, and legs willing, we might detour on the return at West Hendred to loop via Ginge and Ardington. |

Riders:Frank SchroerHugh Falkner Jason Jones Nick Stokell Philip Ingles Ruth Fisher Riders = 6 Weather:Report:Phil (Ward's) seaweed and pine cones must have been ahead of the case as the night was not as spring-like as hoped yet with a gusty wind from the south. Speaking of Phil, a logistic fail meant he could not lead the ride as planned so I volunteered to drag us around his route, but decided to reverse it to avoid the A417 with wind from the south - along with a few other changes. This meant we could take in the road past Lain's barn as well, after which we took in a loop via Lockinge and the Ginges to East Hendred, before heading to the Harwell bypass road which had everything you could want in a road: downhill, smooth new tarmac and tailwind, which I think was enjoyed overall (mind you it was over before you knew it). Onwards through Didcot followed by the road to Milton Park where Hugh suffered a p*nct*re upon which he kindly agreed to let us get on and ride home himself with Nick (glad to see that according to strava you both got there OK). After the numerous speed bumps of Sutton Courtenay I opted for the path from there to Abingdon which is rarely part of Cycling UK rides (shame as it is mostly traffic free) and heading for Ock street there rather than Bath street to avoid the roadworks there. From there the route was as planned via Marcham and Garford and headwind was certainly obviously present on parts of that stretch. Nightfall and increased rainfall then coincided on the way back to Grove via West Hanney and Denchworth. Thanks all for braving the sub-optimal conditions. We also had a new rider for the 4 star (and Cycling UK Wantage in general), welcome Phil. | ||
