Tuesday 1* Evening Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. This week, will go out via Denchworth, to West Hanney, and on to East Hanney, before heading back via the track to West Hanney, and then track across to the Denchworth Road. Then optional stop at The Fox in Denchworth at the end of the ride. for those after refreshment, or straight back to Grove. Around 10.5 miles and flat |

Riders:Carin TranterClare Hazell Emma Hazell Mandy Wassell Naomi Merritt Steve Boreham Steve Swanton Riders = 7 Weather:Report:Was a lovely sunny day.... that is... up until the evening, so disappointingly overcast, with rain threatening. However, a few spots early on did not materialise further, and we stayed dry. Tentative suggestion by me to extend the ride a bit, but due to possible rain this was not risked...A slightly "select" group, we welcomed Clare, and daughter Emma, on their first ride - on a new bike and a newly acquired bike. Although the ride was not extended, there were still the two "off road" sections to challenge the riders. This time, the ride leader's bike resisted the temptation to get a puncture - unlike before!). This was after we "overtook" the 4* ride in West Hanney...... well I suppose they were having a rest.... Carin and Mandy then adjourned to the pub, whilst the rest of us turned back to Grove. At the edge of Grove, Clare & Emma headed for home, as did Naomi, The two Steve's feeling the pub pull, so back we went. Nice to see Clare & Emma, and hope to see you again. Thanks to all for an enjoyable evening. | ||

Description:Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather.Optional stop at The Fox in Denchworth at the end of the ride. |

Leader:Jane John |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.Optional stop at The Fox in Denchworth at the end of the ride. Going out of Grove to the other side of the A420 and looping back again, making a wonky figure of 8. The ride includes some lovely stretches of tarmac. 18.6 miles and only 393ft of climbing, allowing time to stop off for a swift or slow pint on the way back. What's not to like? |

Riders:Brian HipwellDavid Jackson Des Higgs Gareth Smith Jane John John Tranter Ray Wright Robert Treadgold (deceased) Stephanie Haddrell Steve Joyce Val Smith Riders = 11 Weather:Report:A murky, cool evening after the fabulous bank holiday weather with a little 'mizzle' (too light to even call it drizzle) at the start. We had 11 riders for our loopy flat ride to just north of the A420. After being reminded by John T to keep the speed to between 11-13mph (I blame Des!) we had an enjoyable spin round the little back lanes to Lyford, Fyfield Wick, a slightly hairy dash across the A420 followed by a rather safer one back across on the pedestrian bridge, popping out at Southmoor then back through Charney Bassett to Denchworth. Some peeled off to the pub as the remainder of us pedalled back to Grove.Thank you to John T for sweeping and for the leader tips. L plates not off yet! | ||

Tuesday 3* Evening Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Nights are drawing-in, so this will be a largely flat ride on good roads totalling just under 44km, which we should be able to polish off in under two hours. Out through Buckland to Bampton, through Aston to Brighthampton, then Longworth, bridge over the A420, and home through West Hanney. Some of the route is on the A415, so disciplined group riding will be necessary. The ride will stop at The Fox, so be prepared to find your way back to Grove if you are not feeling convivial. Lights essential. |

Riders:Alex McGregorBarry Stanton David Smith David Talboys Jan McCabe Jenny Gower Jon Townsin Joy Arthur Karen Townsin Karl Blake Katherine Boyce Mike Cooke Nicole Pethybridge Sharon Bedford Terry Penn Ursula Hallam Yvonne Bird Riders = 17 Weather:Report:A surprisingly cool feel to the penultimate ride of the summer was nullified by a brisk pace at the top of the three star range.17 riders split into two (more or less) equal groups which nicely managed the roads to the north of of the territory. Thanks to Nick for mapping a very interesting ride over roads less travelled (especially Beggar's Lane!) Shame you weren't able to enjoy it - hope you recover soon. There was a distinct breeze in the air so thanks to David for sharing the load at the front. No untoward events to report and everyone had an enjoyable spin with several riders opting to visit the Fox. Good to see Andy and Andy out for a convivial drink but sorry guys, that doesn't help your rider stats . Finally, thanks to Karen for leading the second group and to Nicole and Yvonne for sweeping. | ||

Leader:Phil Ward |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hours ride at a riding pace of 27-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly - this one will likely be spectacularly flat & paced accordingly .Summertime, and the ridin' is easy Gears are jumpin' and the cadence is high.... An "end of summer" short but breathless romp Northwards, inspired by the musings of Frank - the offered route to be finalised by attendees on the night - so turn up early enough to have some input! Crucially, the ride ends at The Fox in Denchworth . LIGHTS REQUIRED FOLKS..! |

Riders:Charlotte WardFrank Schroer Jason Jones Louis Hall Peter Cowan Phil Ward Ruth Fisher Riders = 7 Weather:Report:Grey, overcast with a cool breeze – hardly an inspiring scenario for a Summer’s evening ride. However, plan B was afoot and we warmed up nicely, noodling out to Lyford. A series of lowland loops ensured that headwinds were not a persistent issue and we worked up a thirst worthy of a Foxy ending. Thanks all for a very satisfying evening’s exercise and company top job | ||
