Tuesday 1* Evening Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.Sun14 Aug: Slight change of plan as I understand the Garford road is closed for resurfacing . So we'll head to East Hanney instead. An essentially flat ride across the vale, but we'll start off using the recently re-opened track out of Grove to the new Cow Lane railway bridge en route to West Hanney. This used to be a regular route for club rides in our early days but fell out of favour due to deepening ruts, mud and hardcore! However, it has been wonderfully improved by Railtrack as part of the works to install the new bridge. The track is a little stony in one or two places but easily manageable on all but the narrowest-rimmed road bikes. We'll continue to East Hanney and explore some hidden corners of the village. We'll return to Grove via West Hanney and Denchworth, a round trip of about 11 miles. |

Riders:Barry StantonGareth Smith Jan McCabe John Hibberd John Tranter Karl Blake Nicole Pethybridge Robert Treadgold (deceased) Roger Veasey Sheryl Hibberd Val Smith Riders = 11 Weather:Report:11 regular riders gathered for a swoop around the Vale. On heading out from the car park we were hailed by a guest rider, Paul, that John T suddenly remembered he had invited along . His memory jogged he headed back to the car park to 'collect' him. Where had he gone -in an instant he had managed to disappear. So while the group headed off John buddied up with his pal. An easy ride out through Denchworth with a few stops to allow John and Paul to catch up. Still no sign until we were on our way from Stanford in the Vale to Pusey where they joined us from the wrong direction!!Finally together we made our way very easily over the A420 and clockwise parallel with the main road. Over the sneaky footbridge brought us back and a sociable loop back. Despite a small chain slippage just outside Denchworth we were all back by 8.20. | ||

Tuesday 3* Evening Ride | 3* |

Leader:Phil Ward |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly - this one is not!LIGHTS ESSENTIAL - Thank You In anticipation of onrushing evenings and a chill in the dusk air we take inspiration from the Sisters of Mercy and head North to the "Floodland". A predominantly flat and lanes based ride will take an easy anticlockwise route across the Thames flood plain between Northmoor and Buckland Marsh. Calm conditions might permit a glimpse of "Lucretia, My Reflection" in the still depths, with the only climb of note the familiar rise away from "Never Land" up to Buckland. A brisk and business-like 3* rate of progress (it really is flat) should see us back at OMH for sunset a smidge before 20:30 - hence the absolute requirement for LIGHTS Forecast: a warm, sunny evening, light Westerlies - could even be called Summer ! |

Riders:Adrian WestDavid Smith David Talboys Des Higgs John Groves Joy Arthur Mike Cooke Phil Ward Richard Hypher Roger Postbeschild Sharon Bedford Steve Joyce Tony Clark Ursula Hallam Riders = 14 Weather:Report:A mild and sunny evening greeted us at sign-on, with 14 keen to experience the nearest we can get to flatlander poldering in the locality. To augment the Dutch ambience, a keen Westerly wind nagged at us each time we turned toward the sun, but no matter, no doubt it helped on the downwind legs. Fortune favoured us at the head of the Charney Road as we crossed the A420 without drama or delay. A tactical split into two groups down the commuter run to Newbridge (thanks Roger for the impromptu 2nd lead) got us into the meat of the ride as we entered the delightful narrow lanes around Standlake. Evidently, it was a great night for riding as we committed to a steady stream of acknowledgements from oncoming cyclists and a particularly cheery group of pink-clad Condors. Turning for home near Bampton, Des and Adrian couldn’t resist the call of The Trout – cheers lads . As lights were deployed a dewy chill was noticeable, so working a little to gain the height up to Buckland proved doubly useful. The ensuing downhill run in the glow of a harvest sun was rattled off in good style and we finished a smidge after 8:30. Many thanks to you all for such a mellow evening, an accomplished large group negotiated the vehicular challenges with aplomb. Particular thanks from me to David Smith for sweeping so effectively with great signalling . | ||

Riders:Carrie KembletonFrank Schroer Jason Jones Louis Hall Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Riders = 6 Report:Not quite the intended route ! Which seems to be a standard for me !Five left Old Mill Hall, Through Denchworth and Sparsholt with the first climb of Eastmanton lane joining at top of Hackpen, Where we re grouped with all enjoying a blast towards Lambourn. Followed by a hard slog into the wind up Ashbury Hill. We where joined briefly by Frank as he blasted past. Having chasing us down the group split in to two with Jason and Carrie joining Frank and Me Louis and Nick following behind. Someone mentioned Dargon hill ( Louis ) So we decided to add the climb on our way past! It would been rude not to having it plastered on our jerseys. Once swiftly despatched with a quick photo stop. We re joined the intended route Via Kingston and baulking. Where Louis and Nick split off. As the sun was setting we made a final amendment to original route back through Denchworth Especially for Jason to do the Dash, I've no idea who won between Jason and Frank as far to far behind. | ||
