Tuesday 1* Evening Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.Tonight we head out via Denchworth, and on to Charney Bassett, before curling back to West Hanney. If conditions permit, we will then take the track across the fields back to the Denchworth Road, before heading back to Grove. Around 11 miles and nice and flat. |

Riders:Carin TranterMandy Wassell Martyn Wigmore Nick Fisher Steve Boreham Thiyanga Kotecha Riders = 6 Weather:Report:A lovely relaxed start anyway.... with seven of us setting out, plus young Noah riding along on Nick's back seat(!)The usual "one star" initial stop in Denchworth, where we observed a large walnut tree, and debate ensued as to who is allowed to pick the walnuts where it over hangs in a public street. No real consensus on this, and we moved on(!). The next question posed was who knew of Sheephouse Lane and where it was - as this was listed on the ride route but the leader had no idea! A challenge was set.... Sheephouse Farm was duly noted, and natural conclusions followed, although the road itself was unmarked.... On arrival at West Hanney, I suggested we take the track from West Hanney directly back to the Denchworth Road. I was asked if my bike, with narrow tyres, was up to this, and I reassured Thiyanga that it was - only to get a puncture immediately we hit the track!! Great effort was made by me and Martyn to change the tube - the tyre being incredibly difficult to get on and off. Eventually succeeded but could not then get the tube hard enough (trying three pumps) to ride on. Nick and Chloe had gone on home, understandably. Chloe, aged five - managing the ride superbly throughout, so a big "well done". So we left all to go on, Mandy and I went back via the road - with me nursing the bike all the way back. Thanks to Martyn for your efforts, and to all for your support. Eventful! | ||

Tuesday 3* Evening Ride | 3* |

Leader:David Talboys |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. This is a bridging ride at the lower level of the range to encourage riders who feel ready to move up to the next star level. The route is that of a cancelled ride from earlier in the season. There should be plenty of daylight to cover the 40 km at a comfortable pace. Apart from Hackpen Hill, there are a couple of other minor climbs, with some long enjoyable descents and a flat return home. Broadly, this will be a ride out to Seven Barrows, via The Letcombes and Hackpen Hill. The sharp turn before Lambourn will take us to descents of Blowingstone and Fawler Hills, before returning via Baulking, Park Lane, and Denchworth. |

Riders:Andy PixtonDavid Talboys Eddie Little Jane John Jenny Gower Jo Little John Groves Joy Arthur Katherine Boyce Nicole Pethybridge Phillip Folkes Richard Hypher Robert Treadgold (deceased) Roger Postbeschild Roger Turnbull Sharon Bedford Terry Penn Yvonne Bird Riders = 18 Weather:Report:Another popular ride attracted 17 riders to the start for this bridging ride. Due to the numbers we split into two groups with Dave leading the first group and myself, Nicole, leading the second. Of course we wanted to give the first group of riders enough space so took a good bridging pace through the Letcombes. As we watched the first group scale Hackpen Hill we were joined by a friendly chap we had just seen going in the opposite direction. Having been interested in the group he turned around and joined us. After Yvonne had given him a compelling introduction (something about lots of women ) he joined us for the remainder of the ride. Up and over Hackpen Hill we enjoyed the descent and made light work back through the gallops to Blowingstone. Safely down towards Lambourne we enjoyed the flat meander back to Grove to meet up with the remains of the first group.A steady ride giving new and 2* riders a good feel for the 3* group. We hope to see regular riders and our visitor Richard Hypher on more 3* rides again. | ||

Report:Seven headed out on a overcast evening, Welcome back to John Cooke don't leave it so long before you ride with us againNick Dutton first four star this year along with Nick stokell helped sharing with ride leading responsibilities. A flat route heading towards Lechlade followed by a climb towards Coles hill. Ruth on her fixed gear bike with tri bars came to the front leaving us all in her wake hanging on to her wheel ! from Shrivenham, Baulking In all the excitement we missed a turning hence the slight change to the planned route Apparently the Denchworth dash was only contended by Ruth and Jason ( the first time he had been seen at the front !) All in all a enjoyable ride getting back to old mill hall by 8.50pm Hopefully the next come and try ride will see more riders making the step up ! | ||
