Tuesday 1* Evening Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.We will head out via Charlton, then take Route 44 to Lockinge, before moving on to Ginge. Then a climb as we head to West Hendred, being rewarded by the downhill into the village. This followed by a short stretch on A417 to Ardington, then over the bump and down past Lains Barn and back to Grove. Round trip of about 12 miles, with sunshine ordered..... Route changed, on the night to the ride route from 27th June. |

Report:Very select little group tonight, despite the weather, so this time, the consensus was for a "very gentle potter", so we adopted the route from last week, which had no takers due to the weather, and headed out via Denchworth and Charney Bassett, Gainfield and up to Pusey, before a cheeky little cut through via the estate, using bridleway, back towards Charney Bassett, then via Lyford, and Denchworth.A lovely flat ride (in contrast to the other rides' "hill" themes), in glorious sunshine and just the right temperature. Thank you Carin & Lorna for you company on an enjoyable ride. Oh, one thing, the sunshine was ordered and it actually came(!) | ||

Leader:David Yearley |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather. |

Riders:David BrownDavid Yearley John Davies Steve Legate Riders = 4 Report:Welcome to Steve Legate on this first ride out with the club.We took the usual Crab Hill route from Grove to Wantage, before heading up to the Ridgeway via Larkhill and the Bitham Wood. From there we descended the other side through Ice Valley to Lands End, before climbing back up opposite Betterton. We then had a great drop down the Ginge singletrack and came back to Grove via the Bridge of Doom, the sneaky woodland singletrack and Crab Hill. | ||

Tuesday 2* Evening Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Karen Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.'Not likely to be very hilly.' Well how about one hill? Kath planned the ascent of White Horse Hill for last month, but the weather was against us and the ride was cancelled, so with another month of riding in our legs, let's have another go. A pretty much flat ride apart from the large bump in the middle. This hill is achievable and the view from the top will be well worth it. Out through Challow, then metalled bridleway to Childrey, on to Westcot and the Spring line before the ascent, then home through Woolstone, Baulking and Denchworth. |

Riders:Gareth SmithJo Little John Hibberd John Tranter Karen Townsin Roger Turnbull Susie Turnbull Val Smith Riders = 8 Weather:Report:What a fantastic evening to be on the top of White Horse Hill. Just stunning. For many of us it was the first time this year; it was good to be reminded of what a challenge this climb is. However, everyone made it and there were smiles all round as we took in the glorious views and chatted to the 3* riders. Then, as we swooped down the hill the view back up to the white horse, positively shimmering in the sunlight, afforded more photo opportunities. Thanks all for a simply glorious mid-Summer evening ride. | ||

Riders:Alex McGregorAndy Pixton Barry Stanton David Smith David Talboys Eddie Little Jane John John Groves Jon Townsin Joy Arthur Karl Blake Kirsten Smith Mike Cooke Neil Townsend Nicole Pethybridge Phillip Folkes Sharon Bedford Steve Joyce Ursula Hallam Yvonne Bird Riders = 20 Weather:Report:An ideal evening for an excursion to White Horse Hill; beautiful sunshine and a light refreshing breeze. As is often the case with summer Tuesday rides, 3* proved the most popular, with numbers swelling to twenty. Thankfully, Jon was happy to lead half the ride, a few minutes after the others had set off. Everyone seemed to stay together quite happily, at a fairly brisk pace, on the flat sections of the ride. We caught, and passed the 2* group, who were heading to the same hill via a different route. Each climbed dragon Hill at their own pace, and we gathered at the top, to take in the view. After catching our breath, and taking the usual team photos, we set off on the homeward leg, just as some of the riders from the 2* and other 3* groups were joining us. The descents into the vale, and the subsequent flat return, were again taken at no more than a top end 3* pace (honest). This was obviously too slow for some, though, as the leader was last to return to OMH. Welcome to Neil, on his first ride with us, and thanks to David S for sweeping the lead group. | ||

Riders:Jason JonesJerry Bird Paul Jarvis Phil Ward Sara Ward Riders = 5 Report:A sunny evening saw a depleted group of six with the inclusion of Charles Clayton a newbie to 4* Heading out on a flattish route. The Wards were doing their impression of the goodies on a tandem great husband and wife effort saw Phil with many Pb's on strava, However not sure who's effort it was down to.A sight change to route ( Jarv's short cut ) saw us venture across ploughed fields dodging a group of runners! coming out in Greatwell Cox on a very tight lane not suitable to long loads! apologises to Phil & Sara who had to dismount a few times. Onward to Coles hill then a lumpy descent to Lechlade followed by a fast flat towards the final climb to Littleworth crossing A420 down Sandy lane and back to Old mill hall via Hanney which disappointed Jason with no Denchworth dash. | ||
