Easy Saturday Afternoon Picnic Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:2:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Monthly 16-32km (10-20 miles) family and social afternoon rides, usually with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 13-16km/h (8-10mph). Occasional short or gentle climbs. To mark Bike Week our Easy Saturday ride will be heading northwards to Duxford, the lowest ford on the Thames, where we'll stop for a paddle followed by a picnic. We'll head out via Denchworth and Lyford to Southmoor, cross the A420 on a bridge carrying a bridleway and continue to the beautiful village of Longworth. A short section of rideable bridleway will bring us through to Hinton Waldrist. Here a road drops down into the Thames Valley and Duxford. Riders can rest awhile by the ford and even go for a paddle. There is a short climb back into the Vale from the ford, but this is on a very quiet road (cul de sac) which everyone can take at their own pace. We'll regroup for a picnic tea by the church in Hinton Waldrist. Please bring something to sit and refreshments. We'll return to Grove Via Lamb Lane and Charney Bassett, a round trip of about 20 miles. This is a Bike Week Event and all are welcome including families. As we will be visiting the ford, please note that all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The ride will be at easy pace following quiet country lanes with no-one left behind. |
