Tuesday 1* Evening Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.A flat ride around the Vale this evening heading to West Hanney and Lyford, with the option for an extra loop to Charney Bassett if the sun is shining. As this is Bike Week , its the perfect opportunity to invite out family and friends. |
||
Report:A glorious evening for a ride and tonight we welcomed three new riders: Phil, John and Sheryl. We followed the route as planned stopping in West Hanney and outside the church in Lyford. Everyone wanted to make the most of the evening so we continued on to Charney Bassett before returning to Denchworth and Grove.Lovely mellow ride with great conversation. Look forward to seeing you all next week (if not before). | ||

Tuesday 2* Evening Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. This is a bridging ride at the lower level of the range to encourage riders who feel ready to move up to the next star level. I'm going to be slightly cheeky here and take a route that Nicole led a few weeks ago and reverse it - it's amazing the difference it makes! So, out via Denchworth to Charney Bassett, Pusey and Hinton Waldrist, then along to the handy footbridge to re-cross the A420 and back down the perfect tarmac from Southmoor to West Hanney and home. 19 miles at a good steady 12mph or so, with no hills. |

Riders:Carin TranterDavid Jackson Gareth Smith John Tranter Lorna Swanton Mila Yearley Naomi Merritt Steve Boreham Val Smith Riders = 9 Weather:Report:What a beautiful evening! A total contrast with the howling gales that cancelled everything only a week ago. A nice group, including some stepping up from 1*. All went smoothly and we had a very nice roll around the northern part of the Vale. Thanks to all for very pleasant company. | ||

Leader:Karen Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. This is a bridging ride at the lower level of the range to encourage riders who feel ready to move up to the next star level. Tonight the plan is to head out to Farringdon via Fernham. There is a little climbing in the middle of the ride, but otherwise it's pretty flat. We will be crossing and re-crossing the A420 and there's a short section on the A417 on the return journey. A ride of 38km/24 miles at approx. 20-21kph/12.5-13mph should see us back at OMH by 8:30ish. |

Riders:Andy PixtonBarry Stanton Des Higgs Jane John Jerry Bird John Groves Joy Arthur Karen Townsin Karl Blake Katherine Boyce Kirsten Smith Robert Treadgold (deceased) Steve Joyce Susie Turnbull Ursula Hallam Yvonne Bird Riders = 16 Weather:Report:What a fabulous evening. A great turnout again, so it was necessary to split the ride. Thanks so much to Kath and Andy for leading and sweeping duties in the second group.A smaller group made the whole evening a more relaxed and chatty affair, and allowed us to make the crossings of the A420 much more safely. Without Des's local knowledge, our group took the more traditional route through Farringdon, but it was great to see a running group out and so many others enjoying the evening. Thanks all for a lovely ride. | ||

Tuesday 4* Evening Ride | 4* |
---|
Leader:Nick Stokell |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5-2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly. This is a bridging ride at the lower level of the range to encourage riders who feel ready to move up to the next star level. Anti-clockwise loop passing through Steventon, Sutton Courtney, Abingdon and Kingston Bagpuize. This is a pretty flat ride and we'll set out at a steady pace of 25 km/h in keeping with the ride's bridging status and try and keep together! It should therefore, mechanicals apart, finish around 2030. |

Riders:Adrian WestCarrie Kembleton David Smith David Talboys Eddie Little Frank Schroer Harry Kenyon-Slaney Hugh Falkner Jason Jones Jon Townsin Louis Hall Mike Cooke Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Peter Cowan Phil Ward Richard Anstis Riders = 17 Weather:Report:Record size group I think, appreciating the good weather and flat terrain, so an early decision was taken to split in two - thanks to Phil for leading the other half.Somewhere en route David got separated (I don't think he was in my half but apologies if he was). One surreal moment when we found Adrian in North Abingdon waiting for us despite him starting in the second group behind us! The outward roads were a little busy but after Kingston Bagpuize the quiet lanes were appreciated. Due to operator error on the Garmin there is no record below, but the first group arrived back at Millbrook at 2020 followed a few minutes later by the second. Later - Happy to report this was a genuine Garmin error - file given incorrect date and time, an issue which was resolved when transferring to Strava (see below). Weird that! | ||
