Chairman’s Newsletter – July 2018

Posted on July 20th, 2018

Hello everyone

Just one thing to highlight – this coming weekend is when we celebrate the Club’s 25th Anniversary!

We are celebrating on Saturday in the way you would probably expect – a selection of great bike rides followed by a selection of great cakes. As always, full details on the website, but in summary there will be a full complement of 1*, 2*, 3*, 4* and off-road rides all leaving Old Mill Hall at 12.45 or 1pm. Given the occasion and the photo opportunity, we would love to see people wearing club jerseys (of whatever vintage) if you have them. All the rides will converge at Uffington Village Hall where we have fine catering provided by Des’ wife Chris (the mastermind and owner of Uffington Community Café). Please bring some cash with you to pay for the cakes and drinks on offer.

As an added treat, we have had customised water bottles designed especially for the occasion (much thanks to Karen Townsin for organising this). There will be 100 bottles available for you at the Hall. We had a Committee discussion about how to charge for these and came to the conclusion that our main priority is to encourage as many people as possible to take these – we definitely don’t want to end up with stock in a dusty cupboard. So – we will just mention that they cost about £3.50 each to produce and leave it to you what you choose to contribute. If money is tight, please take one anyway. If you want to throw in a fiver, feel free. If we end up with a surplus then we will buy something useful for the Club. If you can’t be there on Saturday but would like a bottle, please let me know and we will put one aside for you.

If you or friends and family would like to join us at Uffington, we expect the rides to be finishing and the social gathering commencing at around 3pm.

To round off the weekend, Jon Townsin is leading what looks like a very good 100km all day ride on Sunday way down south to the wild country of Berkshire, Hampshire and even a cheeky bit of Wiltshire!

Don’t miss it!

Best regards
John
