Chairman’s Newsletter – January 2018

Posted on January 20th, 2018

Hello everyone

Despite a wide range of exciting weather in recent weeks, our scheduled rides have by and large survived intact and it has been great to see so many of you out, including a good few new riders. A few things to bring to your attention:

CYCLING EVENING AT THE MIX, WANTAGE – WEDNESDAY 31st JANUARY
We have had some good connections with Sustainable Wantage over the years, and they have asked us to lead an evening advising local people on good bike-friendly routes in the area and general safe cycling hints and tips. This will be happening from 7.30-9.00pm on Wednesday 31st January at The Mix in Mill Street, Wantage. All are welcome if you fancy popping in to add to the pool of knowledge!

CLUB ANNUAL DINNER – SATURDAY 3rd FEBRUARY, FOX AND HOUNDS AT UFFINGTON
Sara Ward has done a great job pulling this together and we have a great menu for you. First of all, thanks to all of you who have already booked places. We have a total of 30 places in their big conservatory, and there are only about 8 places still left. So – top priority, if you haven’t yet booked a place, please do so ASAP by emailing Sara on secretary@cyclingukwantage.org.uk.

For those who have booked, and this also applies to those who book from now on once Sara has confirmed with you that you have a place, please note that the menu info is all cleverly displayed in Google forms at:

Please insert your name, take a look at the menu and make your selections. You will need to do this once per person. The deadline for doing this is Sunday 28th January.

Can you also please make a deposit payment of £5 per person to the club bank account by that same date:

Sort code: 20-90-91
Account number: 23556050

BLOWINGSTONE AUDAX EVENTS – SUNDAY 13th MAY
The Blowingstone-White Horse Audax, a regular event in our calendar organised on behalf of the club by Nick Dunton, will be held this year on Sunday, May 13th. The main event has been made a little harder with a climb of White Horse Hill added shortly before the finish. New for this year will be the “Blowingstone-Boomerang” – a 53km event aimed at those who don’t want to tackle the full route. This still includes Blowingstone hill but has considerable less climbing than the main event and is designed to encourage more local riders to participate. More details at:

https://sites.google.com/site/thamesvalleyaudax/events-in-the-thames-valley-area/blowingstone

Further details, including how to enter, will be circulated closer to the date.

That’s all for now. I hope you see you on a ride soon!

John
